The Fox and the Stork

The fox, like all foxes, thought himself the smartest of creatures and liked to play tricks on others to prove it. Which is why he invited the stork to dinner.

“Shrimp stew,” cried the stork. “My favorite.”

But the fox served the meal in a saucer so shallow that the bird could barely wet the tip of her long, skinny beak much less eat. The fox laughed and ate both portions himself.

Soon after, the stork invited the fox for a dinner of fish chowder.

“I do like fish chowder,” said the fox.

But the stork served it in tall beakers that were too narrow for the fox’s snout. The stork’s long bill allowed her to reach the food and that evening the fox went home hungry.

Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you.
